- Description:
-
The course deals with a broad scale of magnetic materials with emphasis on their applications. A brief introduction (referring to the former, more general theoretical courses of magnetism) is followed by description of individual effects and their usage in recent technics and technologies. We will manifest that existence of the contemporary civilization without magnetic materials is impossible. Important part of the course is devoted to introduction into measurements of various magnetic properties of solids.
- Contents:
-
1. Magnetic arrangement
2. Magnetism on microscale, domain and hysteresis
3. Magnetism on nanoscale, thin films, heterostructures, particles
4. Measurement of magnetic properties (magnetic field measurements, measurement of volume properties, measurement of local properties, excitation and numerical methods)
5. Magnetic resonance
6. Basic types of magnetic materials and their use (magnetically soft materials, magnetically hard materials)
7. Other magnetic phenomena and special types of magnetic materials (magnetoresistivity, magnetoelasticity, magnetocaloric materials, spintronics, superconductivity)
8. Other uses of magnetic materials (magnetic separation, magnetic levitation)
9. Outlook for the future
