- Description:
-
The aim of the course is to study the wireless transmission channel in real environments focusing on wave propagation for planning of terrestrial and satellite wireless links. The syllabus includes both deeper theoretical foundations of radio wave propagation in the atmosphere as well as ITU-R design procedures for terrestrial and satellite, fixed and mobile communications in various frequency bands.
- Contents:
-
1. Spherical wave in free space, Friis equation, Fresnel zones, reflection, scattering, refraction, and diffraction in the atmosphere
2. Transmission media for specific frequency bands and communication services, principles of electromagnetic wave propagation in the atmosphere
3. Propagation of the space wave in the troposphere
4. Empirical and deterministic radiowave propagation models
5. Line-of-sight links, link power budgets
6. Mobile links, wave propagation in built-up areas
7. Wideband parameters of mobile wireless channel
8. Interference and frequency planning in cellular networks
9. Free space optics links
10. Wave propagating in anisotropic environment of the ionosphere, HF radio links
11. Power budgets of satellite links
12. Coverage planning for satellite links
13. Introduction to other propagation channels (ground-to-air, troposcatter, propagation in tunnels etc.)
- Seminar contents:
-
1. Introduction, basic concepts
